The Node Beginner Book
Free Backbone Tutorials eBook
I'm not experienced. Which is why this is no "from novice to expert" book. It's more like "from novice to advanced novice". If I don't fail, then this will be the kind of document I wish I had when starting with Node.
But this is just the context.
Plus, Node. Thus, Node. In order to make use of these, you need to install Node. Instead of repeating the process here, I kindly ask you to visit the official installation page.
Backbone has a small but tight community and Stack answers can be surprisingly helpful. You end up relying on strangers to help you understand detailed topics for free.
This is great and obviously the best place to start—however books are typically the next step when you need to level up your skills. Some devs prefer to start with books because they present learning materials in an orderly fashion. But I can offer the best choices for Backbone books and leave the ball in your court.
First is a free book called Developing Backbone.
The free open source content will always remain free, although you can support the author by downloading a print version if you desire. Anyone who wants to learn Backbone without spending money should check out this book. But there are many other books worth considering. Most of them offer print and eBook options depending on your preferences.
Alternatively you could check out the many books coming from Packt Publishing. Their writers teach in a linear fashion starting from beginner concepts and getting more advanced. For example their introductory book Backbone.
The tutorial is divided into 3 parts- Part 1: Introduction: This section covers setting up the environment with editors and using developer tools to see errors, run commands and examine variables. Well, with node, things are a bit different. One is implemented using the popular Handlebars. This book is suitable for developers from all skill ranges, as it takes care to explain exactly how things work and what to do when you encounter a problem.
